Every adult ballet, jazz, and contemporary dancer who finds us tells us this, especially once they have devoured their first couple of masterclasses and realized we have an endless supply
of classes designed just for them! 

The Dancer’s Workout® adult dance fitness classes fill a massive gap in the marketplace for current and former ballet, jazz, and contemporary dancers. Our classes are not for beginners and not for professional dancers. Instead, these daily dance fitness classes are for "paraprofessional" dancers, the ones who fall somewhere in that huge gap between beginner and pro. They were designed for the millions of adults who grew up in the dance studio and then quit dancing once the demands of adulthood set in. Many of them are now mothers, graduate students, full-time professionals, caregivers, etc. who have not danced in many years (decades even). A common element is that they miss it terribly but have either been afraid to start dancing again or have been disappointed that traditional adult classes are either too easy, too hard, too infrequent, offered at the wrong times, or filled with teenagers rather than adults. Our ideal student needs a safe place to dance where their original dance training will be honored and where they will not get injured, embarrassed, or bored; and where they can connect with other adult former dancers who "get" what makes them tick.

Our choreographed masterclasses have been taught, finetuned, re-taught, videotaped, and teddy-bear-hugged by hundreds and hundreds of adult ballet, jazz, and contemporary dancers. Our paraprofessional dancers are enamored by our ability to weave original ballet, jazz, and contemporary choreography throughout each non-stop hour of fun! They love the way the choreography in each masterclass builds across its songs and enables us to move continuously throughout the hour. They also love that our TDW masterclasses are choreographed to our favorite pop songs!

Each TDW masterclass is structured to provide our students a safe, yet exhilarating total-body workout. Starting with a fun and effective warm-up, each TDW masterclass progresses into a cleverly crafted 4-to-5-song dance cardio arc (part of the TDW secret sauce) which culminates in our electrifying pull-together song! We next delve into "bikini bootcamp," the final 15 minutes of class, where we tackle our choreographed toning exercises before ending the class with a glorious stretch song. It's a dancer's bliss!

Within a given month, our dancers love coming back again and again to repeat the same masterclass over and over again so they can experience the thrill of fully mastering it before tackling the next one.

Since each of our masterclasses are named, our students refer to the classes by name when the post-class chit chat revolves around which masterclasses are their favorites! These discussions are always fun, lively, and heart-warming and, given our amazing class attendance, we take it as another sign that we've gotten it right!

Our mission is to quadruple the overall adult dance market by inspiring former ballet dancers to dance again as adults!  Our online instructor training and certification course is designed for both veteran and novice instructors who love to teach and who are inspired to pay that gift forward by helping adult, former dancers make their way back into the studio for good. The course is also designed for dance studio owners who are eager to understand the nuances and success factors of our thriving adult dance program so their studio can also reap the financial rewards of successfully capturing this vast untapped market. While some studio owners elect to personally become certified to teach The Dancer’s Workout®, most delegate the TDW instruction training and certification portion of their Alliance membership to two or three instructors in their studios.

The first phase of our program takes the studio owner and her instructors through the journey of learning how to teach The Dancer’s Workout® classes, with the goal of ensuring that each instructor is confidently ready to teach these classes by the time they finish the course. In addition to learning how to memorize the intricate choreography most easily, our program teaches your instructors how to dance full-out as they teach, literally for the entire hour, while ensuring that both the students AND they, as instructors, are getting an outstanding dance workout each and every class. Our teachers love this aspect because it gets them and keeps them in phenomenal dancer’s shape!

Beyond learning how to teach The Dancer’s Workout® classes, your instructors will receive exceptional class leadership training, solid business tactics and skills training required to maximize the success of the program, effective student engagement and retention strategies, proven marketing campaigns, and much, much more!

We want to get your instructors certified to teach The Dancer’s Workout® as quickly as we can so your studio can begin generating revenue ASAP. Some potential instructors are able to devote a minimum of 10 hours a week to the course and can therefore achieve their certifications in 6 weeks, whereas others require a slower pace (primarily due to their availability) and can take up to 6 months to achieve their certifications. We therefore offer both a 6-week INTENSIVE and a self-paced option inside our online course. The material presented is identical – the only difference is how quickly the instructors can get through it.

With both course scheduling options, we provide step-by-step guidance to ensure your instructors feel confidently prepared to begin teaching as soon as they achieve their TDW Instructor certification, an important milestone which turns your studio into a TDW-Authorized Studio where The Dancer's Workout® classes may be offered!!

Here’s the thing.

We don't teach children, and we don't teach beginners.  We focus exclusively on the adult market. We always have and always will. 

Our unique backgrounds have been key to our ability to overcome the typical student enrollment and retention problems that have plagued the adult dance industry for years. A little background…  

Jules, our founder, trained in classical ballet for four years at the UNC School of the Arts, then left the dance world for 15 years and ultimately worked for 30+ years in Corporate America. Her unique background as a project management and operations expert, corporate executive, mother, and former dancer wanting to dance again as an adult defined and colored everything about The Dancer’s Workout®. Her personal experience of returning to the studio in her early forties as an overweight former dancer led her down a path of frustration, discovery, and ultimately triumph as she encountered the massive gap in the market for former dancers like herself. That's when she decided to address this gaping unmet need once and for all. 

Jules created The Dancer’s Workout® for adults like us. Everything about the program (the class times, the class structure, the class duration, the marketing appeal, the retention strategies, the social elements of the experience, the level of dance technique required for the classes, the complexity of the choreography, everything) is designed with the adult paraprofessional dancer in mind. Our program doesn't try to retrofit teen technique classes to adults (that doesn't work). We don't offer beginner adult classes. We don't say "everyone can learn to dance" in our adult ads. Our program is for adults who took a minimum of two years of ballet at some point in their lives (no matter how long ago). The classes are specifically designed for intermediate-level, current and former ballet dancers, and this is what makes it successful. Keep in mind, there are millions and millions of adults who took ballet as children, middle-schoolers, and highschoolers between 1990 and 2020, and it is a massive, untapped market. You just need to know how to reach them and how to give them what they want. This is what we teach in our course, and this is why our enrollment numbers are consistently through the roof!

We made all the mistakes, and we fixed all the mistakes. We ran down rabbit holes, pulled our hair out, tweaked and tried again and again, but never gave up. For early 15 years we obsessed full-time over cracking this nut; and in the end we figured it out...
It came slowly at first (during the first 8 years), then steadily (for 4 years), and then like a floodgate <surprise face>.
