TDW MAVENS

Meet Leticia

My Story

I started dancing at the age of 6 when my pediatrician suggested I take up classical ballet. That's how it all began, and ever since, I remember every dance school, every classroom, every teacher, and every choreographer I've encountered along the way. It's been a long and continuous journey in dance, involving balancing school, then college and work with dance, numerous classes, a few competitions, travels, countless performances, stages, adrenaline, rehearsals, and studies. In addition to ballet, around my twenties, I ventured into jazz and contemporary dance, and took a few (limited) attempts at tap dancing.

When I moved from Brazil to the USA last year, I unintentionally took a break from dancing for almost a year, and let me tell you, it left me feeling pretty down, like something really significant was missing… Dance is part of my core; it has shaped who I am, imparted values, and remains a constant source of daily learning. I highlight this journey as an ongoing one up to this day because, thanks to TDW, I'm still hitting the dance floor!

What TDW Means to Me

I always wondered at what point I would no longer be able to balance my hectic life with dance. I thought it would be in this past year of 2023 when I moved to a new country. I confess that I did look for some options at the time, but as the months went by, I felt out of shape, and I also couldn't envision myself committing to a dance school that wasn't willing to understand the busy life of an adult. I spent a year trying out other forms of physical exercise, but nothing filled that void.

Then, one fine day, while browsing the internet once again in search of something, I came across TDW. I quickly booked the first class and... wow!! The environment and culture that Jules created for TDW is something I had never experienced before. Jules and Sara were extremely welcoming to me and the other beginners, making us feel like part of the group and the community right from day one. In this space, there's no room for judgment, competition, or pressure; instead, it's a space to dance, exercise, and have fun! It's a safe, lively, and fun space where we can be ourselves, surrounded by people who share the same passion for dance.

Moreover, another aspect I love about TDW is the community. So many cool and interesting people are there! It feels great to be part of the group, especially during this time in my life when I'm adjusting to a new life in another country. This sense of a dance community has always been a significant part of my life, and, to be honest, it's something I had been missing for some time...

So, I would say that TDW brought back my sparkle! It gave me the chance to keep dancing, staying active, and taking care of my physical well-being, mental health, and spirit!

If you're considering returning to dance and feel unsure: Just give it a try once, I promise you won't regret it!!
