The Stories of Some of Our Current Dancers

MY STORY
I danced ballet from age 7 until 15, when I reached the point where one has to go all in with daily pre-professional training, or choose another path. I knew I didn’t have the talent become a professional dancer, and there weren’t classes available just for fun and fitness, so I quit ballet altogether. I continued my enjoyment of dance via social dancing (Latin and Swing), but that wasn’t frequent enough to serve as a regular fitness program.

What TDW Means to Me:
Most of my adult life I struggled to keep a regular exercise routine, because everything I tried felt so repetitive, solitary and just plain BORING. But then while recovering from treatment for breast cancer, I found The Dancer’s Workout. I’m so thankful I did! Dancing became an important part of my recovery, as it allowed me to regain a sense of control over what happens to my body.

TDW motivates me to stay active despite physical limitations. Even though I’m one of the oldest, rustiest dancers, I never feel judged or compared to anyone. I love the sense of community that Jules cultivates. It’s a great opportunity to hang out with women who share a passion for dance and for life in general. At last, exercise that is both social and fun!

MY STORY
I have always been very athletic.  I danced and played soccer as a young girl.  Then I started playing school sports and stuck with volleyball from middle school through college.  In college I returned to dance by taking jazz classes.  After college graduation I took a desk job, didn’t play sports or dance anymore, and I started gaining weight.  Going to the gym was not the answer for me as I found myself getting bored.  I spent a couple of years looking for a class I could take where I would feel comfortable being myself while I worked to get back in shape.  The Dancer’s Workout is exactly what I was looking for!

What TDW Means to Me:
The Dancer’s Workout is an amazing outlet for me where I can be myself and dance away the stress of my day. Class is never boring since Jules always comes up with choreography that is different and fun! I always look forward to going to class and meeting up with all of the amazing friends I have made, getting in a fantastic workout, and feeling both energized and great about myself when we are done. Jules and all the girls in class work to ensure the class environment is judgement-free and energetic. Joining TDW is one of the best things I have ever done for myself!

MY STORY
When I was five, I was turned away from a hula halau (school) and became too embarrassed to admit my disappointment.  I refused later offers at dance lessons, even when my mother’s friend offered to sponsor me at her daughter’s ballet school.  Instead I turned to gymnastics from ages 7-15 and relished those dance elements incorporated into the sport.  Although I continued to find ways to dance as an adult by attending contra and square dances and trying a dance class here or there, I felt like an outsider and uncomfortable around real dancers.  That changed when I moved to North Carolina and found The Dancer’s Workout.

What TDW Means to Me:
The Dancer’s Workout made me feel welcomed into the world of dance after feeling shutout as a child.  I was hooked after my first class!  It was one hour of complete fun and energy, and it felt like a wonderful, supportive community.  If I’ve had a bad day at work or am feeling stressed, all that disappears once I step into that studio with Jules and the girls!

"I love your marketing plan and ideas. This training has been awesome! You walk the student through the process step-by-step. Thank you!!"

"I own a dance studio with the primary market being adults. We offer many technique classes including ballet, tap, and jazz throughout the week but I had been looking for a cardio dance class for years. I wanted to have a good balance of offerings at the studio and felt a cardio option was important. I had considered a Zumba class; however, with Marley floors I didn’t want street shoes on the dance floor. I stumbled across The Dancer’s Workout® and it sounded like a great fit.  I became certified and have been teaching it at the studio for about five months now. It really is a fabulous and fun cardio workout and a great addition to our ongoing classes. It is attracting new clients who don’t want to enter into a traditional technique class. And my current clients love the carefree movements. As the owner and primary instructor at the studio I don’t have a lot of free time. I was concerned that taking on something new would be too much; however, I find that I am able to process and learn each master class fairly quickly with minimal disruption to my already full schedule. Plus, (and this is a huge plus!!) I am able to get a workout in as I teach it!! "

"The Dancer's Workout® (TDW) is top-notch quality, from start to finish! In addition to being a dance instructor, I am a group fitness instructor who teaches many styles-Zumba, Pilates, Barre.. I belong to the various organizations for which I hold professional certifications and am a strong believer and supporter of classes that are well designed and carefully planned to challenge the participants and help them grow. (I have been in way too many “fly by the seat of your pants” instructor-led classes.) With TDW, we review the key steps at the beginning of the class, and this lays out the design and tone of the class which in turn helps prepare the dancers. The building of the steps during each song is a confidence-builder. Then, the dance where it all comes together feels like a “live performance”! And as dancers, that is such a big thrill! Ending class with TDW bikini bootcamp routines takes you back to reality and the basics of strength building and stretching. Each one-hour class provides a well-rounded balance of dance and toning, which my students love.

On another topic I wanted to mention that the design of the TDW educational material is superb. It is super-easy to navigate online. It is well-thought-out and chunked in modules for easy learning. I think the requirement to submit videos for feedback is imperative to ensure quality across the instructors-way to go!

Support is bountiful with both Jules and Sara and all the social media options. The choreography is varied, as is the music, which keeps the classes interesting and challenging.

I am excited and proud to be a part of TDW family, and my students love it!"
