Meet Amber

My Story

I started dancing at the age of 3 at a studio in New Jersey where I grew up. It was my sole extracurricular activity until high school (when I decided I guess could make time for something else)! I performed and competed with the same group of girls until I graduated high school and moved to Boston for college. Trying to find my place at a new school, I auditioned for the dance team on a whim and was lucky enough to secure a spot on the Boston University Dance Team. The hard work over those next 4 years would be worth it, not just in the friends I made, but in that we were able to bring home the program’s first (and only) team dance & hip hop national championships.

After college, I thought I would take a short, much needed break from the intense dance schedules I’d followed my whole life; however, shortly after graduation I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It took years for me to really become comfortable exercising again, and when I did, I was definitely too nervous to take group classes in case my devices or blood sugar fluctuations were disruptive to others.

After moving to Raleigh a few years ago, I realized it had been almost 5 years since I danced at all, and I was missing it! I eased back into dance with some tap classes, but I still didn’t feel at home. I feel like The Dancer's Workout® found me at just the right time.

What TDW Means to Me

TDW is a safe space for me to finally break back into the dance world. Jules and Sara have created such a welcoming environment, knowing many of us returning to dance after a long hiatus are anxious about it at first! There’s no pressure. It’s not competitive. It’s just fun! I couldn’t be happier to be joining this community.
