The Dancer's Workout® (TDW) Daily Virtual Classes

Studio Attendance Competition

Welcome to our friendly studio contest which is designed to help motivate our precious dancers to dance every day!

Given the extension of our social distancing period through April 30th, The Dancer’s Workout® has decided to provide daily virtual classes through May 1, 2020. Why? Well, because this is something that Sara, Lindsay, Artie, Bailey, and I can do fairly easily; and we are happy to share our work with so many of our dance colleagues who need and appreciate these classes now.

To make things fun, we thought we’d have a little four-week contest to see which studios have dancers which rally together to win one of our five attendance prizes (hold your breath – more on the prizes in a second).

To participate, dance studio owners (or your designees) will need to submit your studio’s previous week’s Total Weekly TDW Attendance information by 11:00 am each Monday for four straight weeks, beginning on 13Apr20 (for the week of 6Apr20-12Apr20). Attendance numbers should be submitted via the new SUBMIT ATTENDANCE INFO button on the Virtual Student Retreat portal (https://bit.ly/TDW-VSR).

Compete for the “Artie Prize”

At the end of the four-week competition, the three studios with the highest attendance will win the “Artie Prize” (and no, you can’t have my dog). This prize is named after my sweet puppy, Artie, who is a very good boy and an excellent big brother, and who works very hard every day to follow all house rules. The Artie Prize includes your choice of one of the following products:

- FREE access to The Dancer’s Workout® online Instructor Certification program, a $270 value, which enables your studio to become a TDW-Authorized Studio, so that future in-person TDW classes can be taught by one of your instructors. This self-paced, online course provides the TDW choreography; the leadership, social media, and business training; and the instructor certification needed for one of your selected dancers to become a TDW-Certified Instructor. Learn more at https://bit.ly/TDWcaptivate.

---OR---

- FREE continued access (for six months) to The Dancer’s Workout® virtual classes, taught by Jules, which may be broadcast on a large screen or TV in your studio and used as a revenue-generating class for your studio. This program includes one new TDW masterclass per month and is valued at $270 ($45/mo).

Competition Details

Attendance Qualification: Students affiliated with a given studio (and their instructors/DSOs) may participate and contribute toward the studio’s total score of The Dancer’s Workout® class attendance. For a studio dancer to qualify as a TDW class attendee, (s)he must complete the full TDW class on a given day either live or via the replay (and if live, (s)he must not be more than 5 minutes late). Attendance in classes other than The Dancer’s Workout® should not be included in the calculation. Studio Owners (or their designees) will establish an accurate honor system process for collecting their students’ weekly TDW class attendance information and must ensure that the prior weekly studio total is submitted by 11:00 am EST on Monday, April 13, April 20, April 27, and May 4th. Studios which do not submit their weekly studio attendance data by 11:00 am on each of these Mondays will not be eligible for a prize.

Calculation of Attendance: If, for example, Jane attends a TDW class (either live or via replay) on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday in a given week, her attendance will be “3” for the week. If the dance studio owner, Melissa, attends Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, her attendance will be “4” for the week. Each person’s individual attendance total will be added together for the studio’s weekly total (e.g., the weekly total would be “7”). One number, the studio’s weekly total, will be entered into the SUBMIT ATTENDANCE INFO form accessed from the Virtual Student Retreat portal at https://bit.ly/TDW-VSR.

At the end of the four weeks, the totals for the top 5 studios will be cross-checked against TDW internal records to confirm the three winners.

Compete for the “Bailey Prize”

For studios with a smaller number of students aged 16 through adult, we have the “Bailey prize.” This prize is named after my sweet puppy, Bailey, who may be tiny but who is quite feisty when challenged. To be eligible for the Bailey Prize, your studio will need to submit your studio’s TDW class attendance info just like the other competitors, and also submit, by 11:00 am Monday, May 4, 2020, either a video or an email which explains why you think your studio deserves the Bailey Prize. Based upon your email/video, Sara and I will award Bailey Prizes to the two studios which we feel show the greatest fondness and need for TDW. The Bailey Prize winners will be given the same prize choices as the attendance winners.

Game On!

Studios are encouraged to notify their students of the competition by email, social media, text – whatever works. Some studios may wish to designate student leaders who can help influence their classmates to participate each day and who can maintain your students’ TDW class attendance records. Game on, dancers!
