TDW MAVENS
Meet Anne
My Story
I have been dancing since I can remember. I took ballet lessons from a very young age (my parents owned a dance studio – my step-father built all of the wood floors in all three studio rooms!). I can remember dancing for my parents and choreographing dances for my sisters and me. I began studying ballet seriously, training within the Royal Academy of Dance program, evaluated by a harsh British woman and all 😊. I thought I would be a professional ballerina but my dance teacher told me at age 13 that I didn’t have the body to be a ballet dancer – she thought my ribs stuck out too much, and I was not very flexible. That broke my heart, but I continued dancing – ballet, jazz, modern, African, etc., throughout my teenage years and my twenties.
Dancing is who I am – my spirit is dance, and I have missed dancing terribly since I stopped TDW right before the pandemic due to family and professional commitments. Recently I was moved to tears when I was watching a dance performance because I love dance so much and I recognized how much I miss dancing myself. So the timing of the invitation to join The MAVENS makes me feel like it was God's answer to my spirit's desire to dance again.
What TDW Means to Me
The Dancer’s Workout® provides me with the opportunity to dance, learn fun choreography, and dance in a supportive environment with like-minded, “like-spirited" women. Being in my late forties puts me in a place of needing to modify moves and go easy on myself in specific ways – and I feel completely comfortable tailoring specific stretches to meet my body’s needs in this supportive environment where I do not feel judged. Thank you, Jules, for enabling me to dance again and enjoy myself with the MAVENS.
